Remote work is the practice of employees performing their duties from a location other than the employer’s central office. An employee’s home, a co-working or other shared space, a private office, or any other location other than the traditional corporate office building or campus could be considered. Remote work has become the new way of working for millions of employees around the world due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Because of the pandemic, many workers and employers were forced to switch to remote work for the first time without any preparation. This blog will explore the best practices and advantages of remote work.

Remote Working Best Practices

Policies and guidelines that are clear: A healthy understanding of expectations is frequently at the heart of a trusting culture: Is it expected that a person is “in the office” (or available for online communication) by a certain time or for a certain number of hours per day? How is performance evaluated? What devices and applications may be used in the workplace? So forth and so on.

Putting together a team: A virtual team is still a team that needs to be managed. Managers, in particular, must foster collaborative, communicative teams that are invested in the success of one another. This could include meeting in person on occasion, such as for a retreat or social event, as well as other practices like recognizing individual and team achievements.

Outstanding technologies: Companies that have high-performing remote teams invest in the technologies that their employees rely on. Examples include remote desktops and mobile devices, high-speed broadband, dependable and easy-to-use applications, and other business-specific requirements.

Advantages of Remote Working

Remote work has numerous advantages, and employees now value jobs that allow them flexibility more than ever. Many are even resigning from jobs that require them to return to their pre-pandemic office life. Evidence suggests that remote work can increase productivity for specific individuals and in certain circumstances. One of the key benefits of remote work is that it can provide employees with greater flexibility, which can lead to increased job satisfaction and motivation. For example, remote workers often create a more comfortable and personalized work environment, which helps them stay focused and motivated.

Additionally, remote work can eliminate the time and stress of commuting, contributing to increased productivity. Another advantage of remote work is that it allows people to manage their time and responsibilities better. For example, remote workers can often take care of personal errands or responsibilities during the day and then focus on work in the evenings when they feel refreshed and focused. This can lead to increased productivity and a better work-life balance.

Job autonomy which is the degree of independence and discretion permitted while performing professional tasks, is one of the most visible job resources of remote work. The number of hours worked remotely correlates positively with job autonomy. Furthermore, it has a positive impact on remote workers’ engagement, satisfaction, and performance while having a negative impact on their stress. Job autonomy is a critical job resource for employees, and in the proper doses, it encourages profitable workplace innovations.

Final Thoughts

However, it’s important to keep in mind that remote work may not be suitable for all types of jobs or all individuals. Some people may be more productive in an office setting with more structure, control, and teamwork.

It’s also crucial to set up good communication and goals and use proper technology to enable workers to share information, stay in touch with their colleagues, and establish clear expectations and boundaries between work and personal life to increase productivity while working remotely.
