A model of planned organizational change from the literature can be used to identify a set of principles for use during the current Covid-19 crisis, but this traditional model may not be adequate during this challenging period. Complex adaptive systems (CAS), a new model from organizational complexity theory, may help hospitals in the COVID-19 era.
Highlights
- Organizational change is any effort to modify an organization’s operations or processes in a planned manner.
- Most change and leadership theorists who use this approach refer to CAS mechanisms found in nature.
- Complexity leadership is a multi-level process that involves the entire system rather than focusing on individual characteristics.
